People are still talking about our first Sassy Seaside Show and we are thrilled to announce a brand new show for 2010!

Curated and Co-Produced by the brilliant partnership of Miss Behave and Professor Vanessa Toulmin from the National Fairground Archive of Sheffield University. The ‘Sassy Seaside Show’ is specially devised for the Theatre Royal Margate.

This years programme features:

Romany

Romany is the Diva of Magic.  She is an original, zany and theatrical magical artiste who performs internationally. She is currently the Magic Circle ‘Stage Magician of the Year’ and is in fact the only female to be awarded this prestigious accolade!  She was chosen to entertain HRH the Queen (and her family and friends) at the Ritz, on the occasion of her 80th birthday party. Romany has acted as compère for more than 100 shows in the famous Palace Theatre in Hollywood's Magic Castle and has also performed for Johnny Depp, Richard Branson and Dame Judi Dench.

The Bears

Fred and the gorgeous Bears are back in town!  Hideaway your ice-creams, and protect your pies as the lovely lads hit Margate with more fury cabaret frolics.  Diets are off limit for the night, as they share with you their unique and wonderful sense of performance.  If you go down to the woods today, the Bears won’t be there, they’ll be wowing audiences in Margate!

Bret Pfister

Supple, sexy, skilful and stunningly handsome, Bret Pfister brings the finest of New York’s cabaret talent to Margate. Frequently headlining in ‘La Clique’, Bret is inspired by the 1980s synth-pop sounds. He blends awesome physical skill and a cool sophistication into his exquisite, punked-up aerial ballet.

Ryan Styles

Ryan presents theatrical, stylised performances with elaborately costumed characters in the genre of mime, drag and live-art. With a background in visual arts and trained at Ecole Philippe Gaulier, he has presented his work at: Duckie, Glastonbury Festival, Soho Theatre and the V&A Museum.  Internationally he has performed at The Guggenheim Museum, the Melbourne and Adelaide Festivals and performed on the Kylie Show for TV. Ryan is a performing chameleon and has been covered in milk, glitter and feathers…all this for his art!

Amber Topaz

Hailing from Yorkshire, this original Yorkshire Tease has razzle dazzled her way to international burlesque stardom by enchanting her audiences with her show girl splendour. This all singing, all dancing, comedy cup-cake has rocketed to top billing at renowned cabaret venues such as The Café de Paris, The Pigalle Club & Wilton’s Music Hall.  In the UK, she has performed at The Royal Festival Hall and the ‘BRITS’ after-show party.  She was chosen to perform at the launch the Citroen Pinko Car in Rome and has become a published singer/songwriter with a ‘Purrfect Tease’ for EMI Italy.

Desireé

Desireé was born and grew up in Norway. She competed in gymnastic and rhythmical gymnastics before moving to study dance at London Contemporary Dance School and Laban Centre for Movement and Dance. Since then, she has had a successful career as a circus performer and a contemporary dancer touring throughout Europe, Asia and the States.  For the Sassy Seaside Show, you will be mesmerised by her amazing acrobalance and contortion.  A beautifully different act!

The Sugar Dandies

The most sparkling thing in ballroom since pink champagne!  Come back with us to a time when tea was high and gentlemen were dandy. It's anything but strictly ballroom as the Dandies serve up a perfect brew of fancy footwork and funny tales of life under the mirror ball. Ballroom is in again, and the Sugar Dandies are coming out...

Madam Galina

From a private performance for Her Majesty the Queen, an unforgettable performance in the Olivier Award winning show ‘C'est Barbican’, television work on Channel 4 (including a pilot at the request of Janet Street-Porter) and performing for the BBC with ‘Ruby Wax Does the Business’ Madame Galina shares her impressive ballet skills with the a select audience at the Theatre Royal.  She inspires audiences wherever she goes with her extraordinary dancing (and acid tongue). She recently entertained the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan giving her the title ‘New Forces Sweetheart'.  More Bolshy than Bolshi, Madam Galina is thrilled to be performing in Margate.

Mark Raffles

This amazing Octogenarian (at the youthful age of 87), first performed in Margate in 1947 at The Hippodrome.  Star of stage and television from Las Vegas to London and famed for his amazing pick-pocket routines, Mark will bring a touch of grandeur to the proceedings with his ‘King of the Rings’.  We warmly welcome this amazing magician and ex-president of the Magic Circle, back to Margate.  Mark has recently performed at the Barbican in London and the Sheffield Lyceum and proves you’re never too old to learn new tricks, or share them with a new audience.

Stickleback Plasticus

Meet the Outlaws of the Dance Floor!  The brilliant character comedy and dance of Stickleback Plasticus come to the Theatre Royal.  Ex-champions Barry and Yvonne have been ostracised by the world of Competition Ballroom due to their over-enthusiastic techniques.  Presenting you a rumba, a samba and a Paso Doble you have never seen the like of, they’ll be strutting their stuff for your delight!
